One of the things I love to do in devotion time with the girls in jail is to ask them their favorite bible verse.
This week I was talking to a beautiful bright brown-eyed girl who was full of smiles. She started to flip through her Bible to the verse she was looking for. As she was turning the pages, I stopped her hand and pointed to a yellow circle with Spanish words on it that was lying between the pages. It took me a minute to read it. I could feel that I was getting emotional. It read, “Do not doubt that God’s plans are better than yours.” I looked at her and asked if I could have it for my Bible. With a hug she said yes, then she asked me for my favorite verse.
I told her Romans 8:28 “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”
She wrote it in her Bible and sat beside me as I talked about God having a plan for her life as it says in Jeremiah 29:11. We talked about forgiveness, healing, and what could be the future for her. As we talked I looked more in her Bible at the verses she had underlined. I could tell that she was an active reader by the yellow colored marks on the pages.
She told me that she likes to read her Bible. She knows that God’s plans are better than hers. She may make her plans, but God directs her actions. Please keep her in your prayers. Although God is working in her life, she has a long road ahead of her.
